Sportsmobile for Sale
2014 Sportsmobile for sale. $92,500.
2014 Ford E-350 EB. 6.8L V-10 Engine. 55K miles. Walkthrough layout with motorized penthouse top. Baja tan exterior with tan leather interior. Full 4WD with Sportsmobile West custom drivetrain.
I purchased this van new from Sportsmobile West per my custom specs. Nicknamed “The Beast”, we’ve had many adventures together throughout the American West, Canada, the Appalachians, and Florida. This was my first foray into RVing, and like many other RVers I’m upgrading to a bigger rig to keep my wife happy. My fishing trips with buddies have also grown to more people than the van can comfortably handle.
This Sportsmobile is in very good shape. There are a few dings I picked up on logging trails, but the four wheel drive train is field proven in almost every condition. Engine runs great and the drivetrain is still under warranty. All electronics and water systems are in proper working order. I’m working on my second set of tires and have about 5k on these new ones.
Unless you’ve had a Sportsmobile, it’s hard to describe the feeling of freedom to leave anytime and go anywhere at the drop of a hat. It turns heads everywhere you go. Whether you are in the city or in the campground, it’s always the baddest thing on the road. I live in Indiana and rarely – if ever – see other Sportsmobiles east of Colorado. I’ve kept a modest travel blog that has many photos of the van if you care to see it in its natural habitat.
I prefer email to provide more information, so feel free to reach out to me at mschad@schadlaw.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you selling it? My wife is not as into adventure traveling as I am, and she wants to get an Airstream.
What is the service history? The oil and all fluids have been changed religiously. Once per year, after my annual trip out west, I have the local 4 x 4 experts at Moab Offroads check the drivetrain. No, I do not keep my service records. Three years ago the transmission went out because of an oil leak. The entire transmission was replaced under warranty and has worked flawlessly since.
Can I test drive it? Of course. Anyone seriously interested can come test drive it both on the highway and offroad.
How old are the batteries? Both the house batteries and the vehicle batteries are brand new. I just replaced them in January 2019.
What are the options? I have included my build order in the gallery below so you can see exactly what it has.

The Sportsmobile is the beating heart of the SchadPad.
It's a home; a beast; a sturdy friend; a bumpy ride. Above all, the van is freedom. Pure freedom, distilled down into 10 cylinders. We can go anywhere, anytime.
We've lived from it in California, the Grand Canyon, Colorado, Florida, Yosemite, Big Sur, Montana, Wyoming, Kansas, Yellowstone, the Kentucky hills, deep in Appalachia on foggy nights. If there's a dirt track, the Sportsmobile can get there.
The Origins of the Sportsmobile
A few years ago, on my very first trip out west, Kelly and I were having out at the Eagle River near Gypsum, Colorado. The road down to the bank was not really a road at all, more like a 4 x 4 embankment. I was fishing and she was doing yoga. I heard her gasp and thought that a bear had shambled down the bank. I turned.
It was not a bear. It was a beast. And it was love at first sight.
There was a huge van, a home on wheels, somehow down on the bank. The guy who owned it was from Aspen. I'd never seen anything like it before. In a ritual that is now well known to all Sportsmobile owners, I asked him to give me the tour and he did.
The covetous seeds of envy were planted firmly in the fertile soil of my mind. They took root and flowered. In 2014, after endless configuration decisions and a six month production time, we picked up our Sportsmobile at their home factory in Fresno, California.
